Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Goods , Basic Materials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.94%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.79%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.92%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ), which rose 1.20% or 2.60 points to trade at 218.52 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT ) added 1.01% or 0.99 points to end at 99.35 and Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE ) was up 0.18% or 0.14 points to 76.53 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE: SHW ), which fell 2.18% or 7.71 points to trade at 346.29 at the close. Travelers Companies (NYSE: TRV ) declined 1.95% or 5.14 points to end at 258.99 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: AMGN ) was down 1.77% or 5.29 points to 292.95.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO ) which rose 3.90% to 56.76, Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: PLTR ) which was up 3.54% to settle at 139.12 and Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER ) which gained 3.26% to close at 96.68.

The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA ) which was down 6.80% to 293.92 in late trade, Bunge Limited (NYSE: BG ) which lost 4.58% to settle at 74.85 and Celanese Corporation (NYSE: CE ) which was down 4.57% to 58.10 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Mustang Bio Inc (NASDAQ: MBIO ) which rose 180.66% to 3.34, CURRENC Group Inc (NASDAQ: CURR ) which was up 91.35% to settle at 1.99 and eLong Power Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: ELPW ) which gained 63.98% to close at 1.94.

The worst performers were Skyline Builders Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: SKBL ) which was down 87.58% to 1.54 in late trade, Top KingWin Ltd (NASDAQ: WAI ) which lost 80.14% to settle at 0.72 and Jasper Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: JSPR ) which was down 55.10% to 3.04 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2142 to 624 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2368 fell and 966 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged.

Shares in Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER ) rose to all time highs; rising 3.26% or 3.05 to 96.68. Shares in Boeing Co (NYSE: BA ) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.20% or 2.60 to 218.52. Shares in Skyline Builders Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: SKBL ) fell to all time lows; falling 87.58% or 10.86 to 1.54. Shares in Top KingWin Ltd (NASDAQ: WAI ) fell to all time lows; falling 80.14% or 2.91 to 0.72. Shares in Jasper Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: JSPR ) fell to all time lows; falling 55.10% or 3.73 to 3.04.

The CBOE Volatility Index , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.77% to 17.79.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.30 to $3,346.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.29% or 1.52 to hit $68.02 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.35 to trade at $69.65 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.17, while USD/JPY rose 1.05% to 146.08.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 97.20.
