Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.06%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the REITs , Real Estate and Energy sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.06%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX: SSL ), which rose 6.16% or 0.81 points to trade at 13.96 at the close. Meanwhile, Ngex Minerals Ltd (TSX: NGEX ) added 5.67% or 0.87 points to end at 16.22 and OR Royalties Inc (TSX: OR ) was up 5.20% or 1.84 points to 37.22 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ATS Corporation (TSX: ATS ), which fell 8.08% or 3.56 points to trade at 40.49 at the close. NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX: NVA ) declined 3.56% or 0.51 points to end at 13.80 and Celestica Inc. (TSX: CLS ) was down 3.36% or 7.31 points to 210.47.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 500 to 416 and 71 ended unchanged.

Shares in Sandstorm Gold Ltd. (TSX: SSL ) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 6.16% or 0.81 to 13.96. Shares in OR Royalties Inc (TSX: OR ) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.20% or 1.84 to 37.22.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.94% to 9.62.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.01% or 0.50 to $3,346.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.35% or 1.56 to hit $68.06 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 1.37 to trade at $69.67 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.62.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 97.20.
