U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.23%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering , Mining and Tobacco sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.23%.

The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Entain PLC (LON: ENT ), which rose 3.51% or 26.80 points to trade at 790.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Airtel Africa Plc (LON: AAF ) added 3.25% or 5.50 points to end at 174.60 and Mondi PLC (LON: MNDI ) was up 3.20% or 38.00 points to 1,226.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Imperial Brands PLC (LON: IMB ), which fell 7.27% or 210.00 points to trade at 2,680.00 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON: SPX ) declined 6.00% or 395.00 points to end at 6,190.00 and Vistry Group PLC (LON: VTYV ) was down 3.13% or 19.80 points to 613.40.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 905 to 854 and 598 ended unchanged.

Shares in Airtel Africa Plc (LON: AAF ) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.25% or 5.50 to 174.60.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.91% or 62.09 to $3,185.71 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.50% or 0.32 to hit $63.35 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.37 to trade at $66.26 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.24% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 100.63.
